Take a deep breath of fresh country air as you stand atop a forested mountain. In Happy Valley, wellness doesn’t just happen in a spa–it unfolds outdoors, where forest paths guide your mindful moments, goats join in on yoga, campfires reconnect friends, and farm-fresh meals nourish your body and mind. Happy Valley is the perfect place to recharge, striking a balance between outdoor adventure and mindful self-care.
Explore Trails, Vistas & Overlooks
You can find still moments out on the trails where you can breathe deep and take in the sounds of nature on a hike that’s good for both your body and your mind. In Bear Meadows Natural Area in Rothrock State Forest, you’ll find a quiet bog buzzing with insects and the soft squelch of mud underfoot. In the winter, the soft crunch and stillness of the snow at Galbraith Gap bring with it a meditative calm.
In Black Moshannon State Park, the Bog Trail offers a unique way to experience the marshlands, featuring an easy boardwalk trail that’s perfect for a slow, mindful stroll. Nearby, a more strenuous hike to Ralph’s Majestic Vista rewards an incredible mountain view and the ideal spot for quiet reflection.
Another spot for awe-inspiring views is the summit of Mount Nittany, a must-do hike in Happy Valley. This steep, challenging hike is a great way to connect with nature, and there are seven overlooks where you can take in the stillness of the valleys below.
Visit Farms for Artisanal Cheese… and Goat Yoga!
For a lighthearted approach to mindfulness, goat yoga at Nittany Meadow Farm in Boalsburg will have you laughing while you stretch. Spend some time on this small, family-owned farm with playful dairy goats nipping at your hair and climbing on your back during a fun and unpredictable yoga session. While yoga is a popular meditation technique valued for its calmness and silence, goat yoga reminds us that mindfulness can also be about joy and laughter.
Wellness is homegrown in Happy Valley thanks to the many farms in the area that share the fruits of their labor with the community. Goot Essa is an Amish-owned artisanal cheese producer that crafts cheeses from cow, goat, and sheep milk using traditional family recipes. At Kinfork, you can find local agricultural products, like pasture-raised meat and cheese, from more than 45 farms working cooperatively throughout Happy Valley.
Follow the Happy Valley Agventures Dairy Delight Trail for Local Goodness
For cow-to-cone ice cream goodness and other local dairy producers, find your happiness on the Dairy Delight Trail. You’ll discover local makers like Meyer Dairy Farms in State College, which has been in operation since 1887, and Penn State Berkey Creamery, a famous Penn State tradition for more than 155 years.
Eat Fresh With Field-to-Fork Finds
It's easy to eat well in Happy Valley, with all the farm-to-table restaurants that celebrate each season by featuring fresh, locally grown ingredients. With every meal in Happy Valley, you can know exactly where your food came from, whether it’s the fresh-pressed apple cider from Way Fruit Farm Café, the Amish-made ice cream from Nittany Valley Creamery, or a globally-inspired dish from Flour & Stone. At RE Farm Café, you can watch your meal being meticulously prepared in an open kitchen, with ingredients grown in the fields that you can see from your table. Meanwhile, at Boal City Brewing, you can drink local beer right where it’s made, with the added benefit of forest views, easy access to bike paths, and being adjacent to Rothrock State Forest.
