Happy Valley’s myriad hotels, inns, and boutique B&Bs can deliver lodging options that meet everyone’s travel needs.
Founded in 1855, Hotel State College offers modern furnishings and décor. In the handful of intimate guestrooms, this hotel has a blend of contemporary comfort and historic charm.
During a stay, be sure to check out one (or more!) of the hotel’s six food and dining venues, a collection of iconic restaurants and bars such as The Corner Room, a Penn State alumni staple favorited for its classic American eats, or Allen Street Grill, beloved for its high-end dining experience highlighting all things fresh, seasonal and local.
“Hotel State College is definitely the spot to be,” said Brendyn Dornich, hospitality director. “Our big draw is that we’re in the heart and soul of downtown State College, right at the gates of Penn State University… If people are looking for activity, looking for great meals and convenience, this is the spot.”
(Pro tip: This hotel fills up quickly for Penn State football weekends, as well as the university’s graduation and Family Weekends, so book your stay well in advance if your travel dates align with these events.)
Another property with strong Penn State ties, The Penn Stater Hotel & Conference Center just wrapped up a massive overhaul. From the carpets, artwork, and entertainment features in guestrooms, to a revamped lobby and meeting and event spaces, guests who’ve stayed at this property in the past will notice a completely different experience during an upcoming visit.
“It’s much more fresh and modern,” explained Ryan Cimei, general manager. “It’s light. It’s vibrant. You walk into this new, beautiful, tiled lobby….It’s brighter colors, and it ties back to Penn State, so our color scheme features a lot of blues, grays, and light tans… There’s a Nittany Lion Shrine mosaic. As soon as you walk through the revolving doors, there’s Penn State artwork around the building. We’re staying true to who WE ARE! Visitors will enjoy our refreshed decor.”
New changes also include the addition of a sundry shop near the front desk, and further upcoming refreshes are planned for the hotel’s food and beverage offerings.
The Penn Stater’s sister property, The Nittany Lion Inn, celebrated a massive renovation in recent history, to rave reviews.
At the Hilton Garden Inn State College, the Preferred Hotel Partner of Penn State Athletics, vacationing with the family is convenient and stress-free.
As Jennifer Brooks Stahl, corporate director of sales at Hospitality Asset Management Company, said, “Our newly renovated hotel has oversized guest rooms and spacious suites, so there’s room for the kids (and their gear). Splash around in our indoor pool, grab a bite together at Mercato Mio, and we are also closely located to family attractions such as Millbrook Marsh and Mount Nittany, perfect for a family walk or hike. And yes, even your furry family members are welcome, because we’re proudly pet-friendly.”
You’re just minutes away from downtown State College, Penn State University, and the university’s various sports venues.
For unexpected elegance in the heart of Happy Valley, consider Carnegie House, featuring luxurious guest rooms, fine dining, and impeccable service.
For rest and relaxation with a side of Victorian history, try Riffles and Runs B&B in downtown Bellefonte. You’ll enjoy a full, home-cooked breakfast among antique furnishings in the sunny dining room, as well as views of beautiful Spring Creek from the backyard patio. All the while, you’re within easy walking distance of shopping, restaurants, and downtown Bellefonte’s Talleyrand Park. This B&B feels like it was designed for fishermen, with fly-fishing-themed decor throughout the accommodations.
Nearby, Simplicity: A Bed and Breakfast was built in 1870 for Rebecca Valentine Pugh, widow of the first president of Penn State University, Evan Pugh. Today, the property’s three cozy guestrooms each feature a queen-sized bed and private bathroom. Desirable amenities, exceptional service, and locally sourced food will make for an extraordinary stay during your well-deserved time off.
Meanwhile, Fairfield Inn & Suites State College is located near numerous fun restaurants and State College attractions. Easy access to major highways, including Route 322 and I-99, makes this option even more convenient. The majority of rooms offer two queen beds, perfect for families and traveling teams.
