Yes, the temperature has dropped, the leaves have fallen, and there might be some snow on the ground, and there is plenty to do in Happy Valley during the winter months!
Activities and events abound during the colder months in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania. Plus, there is an excellent schedule of Penn State Sports to watch, movies to see, concerts to listen to, conventions to attend, and, of course, skiing!
Tussey Mountain is known for snowboarding, snow tubing, and skiing. The ski lodge offers private and group lessons as well as seasonal programs. Put it on your calendar: many flock to Tussey Mountain in the summer months to take part in the Tussey Mountain Wing Fest.
Want to see some sports? Penn State has you covered! During the winter months, you can see a Men’s or Women’s Basketball game, a Men’s or Women’s Ice Hockey game, or a Wrestling Match. This season is exhilarating because both the Men’s and Women's Ice Hockey teams will play a game at Beaver Stadium on January 31, 2026! For more information about PSU winter sports, visit gopsusports.com.
On March 7 and 8, 2026, Penn State will host the Big Ten Wrestling Championships at the Bryce Jordan Center. This will be a hot ticket item, bringing thousands of visitors to the area.
Want to watch a non-Penn State sporting event? The Harlem Globetrotters will visit the Bryce Jordan Center on February 24, 2026!
Enjoy the experience of watching a movie on the big screen. Both the State Theatre in State College and the Rowland Theatre in Philipsburg offer vintage film viewings. You can also catch a first-run movie or an old-time nostalgic event at the landmark Rowland Theatre or catch live music at the State Theatre. Visit the theatres' websites to see what movies are playing.
Of course, you can visit a museum! Both the Penn State All-Sports Museum and the Palmer Museum of Art have winter hours. Make sure you check with them before going to make sure they are open.
There are plenty of live concerts for you to attend as well. The Bryce Jordan Center will be hosting Jason Aldean on January 29, Big Time Rush on February 3, and Brandon Lake on March 20, 2026. Want something a little bit more intimate? How about catching a live performance at The State Theatre or at Manny’s Performance Space? Both offer a great atmosphere, and, in fact, many pubs in Happy Valley host live music regularly.
For those who prefer classical music, the PA Chamber Orchestra will be playing Romantic Reflections on January 18, 2026, in Penn State’s Recital Hall.
Need an activity to keep the kids busy? Why not check out Taste Buds Kitchen or The Rivet at Discovery Space? Taste Buds Kitchen offers kid and family cooking classes, school break camps, and private parties. The Rivet at Discovery Space offers youth workshops and camps, private lessons, and birthday parties.
You can take the kids to Climb Nittany, an indoor rock-climbing gym located in Boalsburg, PA, near State College. The facility opened as the region's first full-scale indoor climbing gym and offers bouldering, top-rope, and lead climbing, along with yoga and fitness spaces. Its mission is to build community through movement and make climbing accessible to beginners and experienced climbers alike. It would be great for the kids as well as adults!
You should visit THON on February 20-22, 2026. It is a 46-hour dance marathon that Penn State students participate in to raise awareness of and funds for pediatric cancer. Anyone can go to see the students dance for free. Insider's tip: the best time to go is Saturday morning when there is less of a crowd.
If you want something fascinating to do with the kids, or to get yourself out of the winter blues, make sure you keep February 28 and March 1, 2026, open for the Happy Valley Comic and Collectibles Convention!
The convention is more than 100,000 square feet of fun and is held at the Nittany Valley Sports Centre. Inside, you will see cosplayers from many genres, including Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Anime, and superheroes. There will be hundreds of vendors selling Comics, Sports Cards, Collectible Card Games, Action Figures, Toys, Funko Pops, Anime, and everything in between. The event is a perfect bridge between the end of winter and the beginning of spring.
As you can see, the Happy in #HappyValleyPA is vibrant during the winter months! There are plenty of things to see and do!
