Penn State Jazz Fest


The Penn State Jazz Fest takes place March 29th and 30th at the Penn State School of Music. Now in its 20th year, this year’s jazz fest will feature numerous Penn State Jazz groups including: Inner Dimensions, Outer Dimensions, Vocal Dimensions, the Penn State Jazz Faculty Combo, and, of course, Centre Dimensions – who will be joined by special guest the NEA Jazz Master, Benny Golson (tenor sax).

Saxophonist and prolific composer Benny Golson, well known for numerous recordings with Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman and over 30 recordings under his own name, will perform at the festival on Saturday March 30 at 7:30pm with Centre Dimensions under the direction of Marko Marcinko, Penn State’s premiere large jazz ensemble.

Golson known for his jazz compositions “Killer Joe, Whisper Not, Along Came Betty, Stablemates and I Remember Clifford” will give a jazz lecture on March 29 at 2:30pm in the Esber Rehearsal Hall Music Bld 1.

The Festival will also star jazz pianist Steve Rudolph, trumpet master Dr. Eddie Severn, vocalist Elizabeth Radigonda, bassist Josh Davis and special guest Sharp Radway. The Penn State Jazz Faculty along with Vocal Dimensions, Inner Dimensions, Outer Dimensions as well as numerous regional High School and Middle School Stage Bands will all perform during the weekend. High school bands will receive clinics and adjudications by Prof. Dave Jumper (trumpet) and Prof. Pat Dorian (trumpet).

March 29 will feature Outer Dimensions, Inner Dimensions and The PSU Jazz Faculty with guests at 7:30pm The New Recital Hall, Music Bld 1.
