The Roland Curtin Foundation requests your presence at the Transfer of Ownership Celebration. Local and state leaders will join the celebration as the nonprofit ceremoniously takes ownership of the historic property from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
Speakers, music and performances by the Tir Na Nog of Pa Irish Dance will help us celebrate this historic day.
A short reception and guided tour will follow. Special souvenirs to commemorate the day will be given to guests of the ceremony (while supplies last).
Ceremony begins at 1 p.m.
Tour Sunday: 2 p.m.
Background:
The Pennsylvania House passed a dedicated bill (sponsored by state Representative Paul Takac) to transfer the land and buildings to the Roland Curtin Foundation for $1. The move is designed to empower the foundation to seek grant funding, initiate capital campaigns, and establish an endowment for long-term operations.
Beyond the village's preservation, this transition aligns with broader countywide initiatives to restore historic train excursions and link tourist destinations along the Nittany and Bald Eagle Railroad spur.
Located off State Route 150 near Howard and Bald Eagle State Park, the 60+ acre site features a Federal-style mansion, workers' cabins, and a 19th-century waterwheel-powered blast furnace
Tour Sundays:
Family friendly guided tours occur on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month from June through September.
The tours begin at 2 PM and last 75-90 minutes.
You will tour the Curtin Mansion and the iron works complex. Learn about iron making in 19th Century Pennsylvania, the architecture of the mansion, Curtin family history, and life of the workers on this historic iron plantation from our knowledgeable volunteer guides -- who are often dressed in period attire.
Victorian games, a hunt for slag and a Curtin Hunt is available for children.
Thanks to our amazing volunteers, guided tours are free.
As a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit, we ask that you make a donation during your tour. Cash, credit & Paypal are accepted and your donation is tax-deductible.
Donation boxes are at the front entrance of the mansion when you sign in and/or can be made online at http://www.curtinvillage.com/
