Spring in Bellefonte brings a beloved tradition: the Bellefonte Easter Egg Hunt, a free, community-driven event that has been delighting local families for 16 years. Hosted in conjunction with Historic Bellefonte Inc., this year’s hunt will take place Saturday, April 19, 2025, with sponsor activities beginning at 1 p.m. and the egg hunt promptly kicking off at 2 p.m.
With 15,000 candy-filled eggs hidden throughout the park, the event is open to children 12 and under, with designated age groups and a special needs area to ensure everyone can participate. Hidden among the eggs are extra-special prize coupons, which can be redeemed at the Bunny Shack for Easter baskets, bicycles, and other surprises.
A Community Tradition
More than just an egg hunt, the event is a testament to Bellefonte’s strong community spirit. Local businesses, organizations, fire companies, and volunteers work together to donate eggs, candy, time, and resources to keep this event free for all families. Many student volunteers helping out today once participated as young children—a full-circle moment that speaks to the event’s lasting impact.
"All of our community is involved through their work, civic organizations, churches, or school teams," organizer Mary McMurtrie shared. "This has been a tradition for 16 years, and we’re proud to continue making it accessible for everyone."
