No matter the season, there’s always something fun to do at Tussey Mountain. In the winter, you can hit the slopes for skiing, snowboarding, or snow tubing. When the weather warms up, the mountain transforms into a hub of activity with go-karts, mini-golf, e-bike rentals, a driving range, and more.
I visited in February, and it was the perfect spot to ease back into snowboarding after a long break. Tussey is an excellent mountain for beginners, but it also offers more challenging terrain and a terrain park for those looking to level up.
You can visit Tussey Mountain year-round, and you’ll find a different experience during each season. Winter and summer are the two most popular seasons, but there are still things to do in spring and fall.
January and February are the best months for snow activities, such as skiing and snowboarding. Snow tubing has a short window, so stay up-to-date by following their social media channels and website for the latest information.
Summer hours begin on Memorial Day Weekend and last through mid-to-late October, depending on the weather. This is another busy season, as they host many public and private events. The Fun Centre is open, and there are many other activities to enjoy during the warmer weather.
Spring and fall are considered shoulder seasons here, but this is a great time to rent an e-bike and explore Rothrock State Forest.
Mini-golf, their PAR 3 golf course, and many other Fun Centre activities are still open in the spring and fall. Just note that the go-karts are only available during the summer months.
Tussey Mountain will close down for a few weeks to transition into their main seasons (winter and summer) so just keep that in mind.
I’ve already mentioned many popular things to do at Tussey Mountain, but we’re going to run through all the fun activities they have available here.
The Fun Centre is a popular attraction during the warmer months, and it’s where you’ll find go-karts, mini-golf, PAR 3 golf, a driving range, and a Catch-and-Release fishing pond.
If you wish to visit the fishing pond, please note that they do not rent or supply equipment, and a valid fishing license is required.
Don’t forget to rent e-bikes to ride in Rothrock State Forest! There is a loop that takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete, starting at Tussey Mountain.
The large amphitheater beside their lodge is where they host concerts and other popular events. You can also rent their spaces for private events, such as weddings, family reunions, or corporate gatherings.
During the winter, this turns into one of the best ski mountains for beginners or those looking to improve their skills. They offer both group and private lessons from PSIA Certified instructors.
Snow tubing runs as long as the weather permits, so the season is shorter than on the regular mountain.
Tussey Mountain’s most popular summer event is WingFest, a local tradition that combines live music, cold beer, and delicious wings.
Held Thursday evenings from late June through August, this local favorite brings together restaurants from across the region to compete for the title of best wings.
You’ll find everything from classic buffalo to creative flavors you didn’t know you needed. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and plan to settle in for a fun night.
Now let’s get into the details. You’ll find two large parking lots between The Lodge/Ticket Office and the Fun Centre.
In the winter, you can purchase lift tickets in the ticket office, which is the small white building to the right of the lodge when you’re looking up the mountain.
One of my favorite aspects of Tussey Mountain is that they really do offer a lift ticket for everyone. You can buy an all-day pass or one for two or five hours.
You can even purchase a Beginner Slope Only ticket, which grants access solely to the bunny slope. This helps you save a significant amount of money, especially if you don’t plan to be out all day.
If you don’t have your gear, they offer rentals for complete ski sets, snowboard sets, or individual items such as snowboard boots, ski poles, and helmets.
You can purchase lift tickets in advance through their website by creating an account with Tussey Mountain. If you visit multiple times or are visiting on a busy day, this is the most convenient way to purchase since you can reload your RFID card.
During summer, you can also rent e-bikes or pay your PAR 3 green fee online.
If you get hungry while there, the Tussey Mountain Cafeteria is open during the winter. Their new Beer Garden is currently under renovation and is dog-friendly with fun outdoor games. They plan to bring in food trucks for summer 2025 and have lots of future plans for this space.
Why not expand your trip to Tussey Mountain into a whole weekend adventure (or longer)? Boalsburg and the surrounding area are full of unique cultural attractions, excellent restaurants, and great outdoor adventures.
Boalsburg is home to the Columbus Chapel and Boal Mansion Museum, where you’ll find artifacts tied to both American and European history, including pieces linked to Christopher Columbus.
Just down the road is the Pennsylvania Military Museum (under renovation through February 2026), which honors the service of Pennsylvanians across generations and features rotating exhibits, memorials, and a peaceful walking path through the grounds.
While you're in town, stop by the “Honors to the Fallen” Memorial Day statue—Boalsburg is known as the Birthplace of Memorial Day in Pennsylvania.
When it’s time to eat, head to Breakfast on Boal for a hearty brunch or grab a table at Boal City Brewing for craft beer and dinner at one of the rotating food trucks.
Boalsburg also borders Rothrock State Forest, which means you’ll have easy access to some of the best hiking and mountain biking trails in the region.
And if you find yourself craving a little more action, downtown State College is just minutes away with shopping, bars, and even more dining options.
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, I stayed at the new Wyndham Garden State College when I visited Tussey Mountain. It was conveniently located less than five minutes from Tussey Mountain and close to all the other Boalsburg attractions.
