Every December, historic downtown Bellefonte welcomes the return of Bellefonte Victorian Christmas, an annual tradition that brings the community together for a festive weekend of holiday activities, music, and small-town charm. This year’s celebration marks the 44th year of this beloved annual event, held this year from December 12 to 14, 2025, featuring the theme “It’s a Wonderful Life in Bellefonte,” with a few exceptional experiences inspired by the classic film. While the event honors Bellefonte’s Victorian heritage, the weekend focuses more on highlighting traditions, gatherings, and local experiences that make the season meaningful.

Set in the heart of central Pennsylvania, Bellefonte is known for its beautifully preserved 19th-century architecture, and during Victorian Christmas, it serves as the backdrop for all weekend activities. Through town, visitors can enjoy traditional carolers, festive storefronts, handmade goods, and seasonal treats from local cafes.

Throughout the weekend-long celebration, there is something for everyone. Families can enjoy children’s activities, Santa sightings, storytelling, and festive performances. Additionally, the Bellefonte Historic Railroad Society will have holiday train rides on the Sugar Plum Limited and the Candy Cane Express, and the Curtin and Armor Model Railroad exhibit inside Belle Mercantile will feature G-scale trains running through a detailed 1920s-1940s holiday village, with new additions for 2025. Shoppers can explore the Indoor Arts & Crafts Show at the YMCA, browse the Outdoor Winter Market in Talleyrand Park, and support downtown’s many unique brick-and-mortar shops. History lovers can enjoy performances in historic venues or participate in experiences inspired by this year’s It’s a Wonderful Life theme. For those simply looking to enjoy the atmosphere, the weekend offers countless opportunities to listen to live music, admire the decorations, and make seasonal memories.

Opening night on Friday includes a Victorian Brass performance, food and entertainment on Howard Street, and a special appearance by Chris Collins portraying Jimmy Stewart in It’s a Wonderful Life in Bellefonte, followed by a free concert by the Bellefonte Victorian Christmas Choir. On Saturday, visitors can enjoy a full schedule of free concerts, including the Youth in Harmony performance at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, as well as the Christmas Soundwalk, a series of music programs presented across three of Bellefonte’s historic churches.

For locals, Victorian Christmas is a cherished tradition that reflects the community spirit that defines Bellefonte. For visitors, it’s a welcoming and memorable holiday adventure filled with tradition, music, and seasonal joy.

Whether you come to shop around, see a musical performance, take a ride on the Historic Bellefonte Railroad, or spend the whole weekend exploring, Bellefonte’s Victorian Christmas invites you to slow down, savor the season, and fully experience “It’s a Wonderful Life in Bellefonte”.

Most activities are within walking distance of Downtown Bellefonte, and free shuttles are available for some locations, including the Festival of Trees at CPI. Visitors are encouraged to dress warmly, bring cash for small-vendor purchases, and check the official Bellefonte Victorian Christmas website and Facebook page for the full schedule, reservation links, and updates.
