Weekend events: Monster Trucks, baseball and 'The Odd Couple'
UNIVERSITY PARK – OK, so the Blue-White Game has come and gone. Don’t worry, spring has (finally) sprung and there’s plenty to do this weekend in Happy Valley.
Let’s take a closer look at this weekend and what’s on the docket.
FRIDAY, APRIL 27
Penn State baseball vs. Northwestern – The Penn State baseball team opens a three-game series with Northwestern at 6:30 p.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Jazz in the Attic – The David Stambler Quartet will perform at 8 p.m. in the Attic at the State Theatre. Stambler presents a dynamic and eclectic mix of jazz, featuring the great American songbook, jazz standards and original compositions. He will be performing with an all-star rhythm section of Central PA’s best: Steve Rudolph (piano), Joshua Davis (bass) and Marko Marcinko (drums).
SATURDAY, APRIL 28
Penn State baseball vs. Northwestern – The Penn State baseball team’s series with Northwestern continues with a 2 p.m. Big Ten tilt at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Happy Valley’s Got Talent: Kids’ Edition – The popular show is back for another year as kids in kindergarten through high school perform at The State Theatre beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for students (plus ticketing fees). Monster Truck Nationals – The Monster Truck Nationals hit the Bryce Jordan Center and all of the big name trucks will be there. See Bigfoot, the Raminator, Bad News Travels Fast, Heavy Hitter and Basher. Two hours prior to the show, there will be a free pit party. Fans can get up close and personal with their favorite drivers and trucks for photos and autographs. Tickets start at $22.50 and can be purchase at the BJC box office or at www.ticketmaster.com.
“The Odd Couple” – Jeff Brown (93.7 The Bus) and Richard Biever (FUSE Productions) will perform a reading of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” at 7:30 p.m. at Schwab Auditorium. Lady Grey’s Burlesque Meets Broadway – It’s the final cabaret of the 2018 season. From the magical Beauty & the Beast to the Broadway sensation of Hamilton, from hilarious Chorus Line showgirls to the iconic choreography of Sweet Charity… join Lady Grey and her Lovelies as they explore a menagerie of musical theatre show tunes and amazing burlesque and dance numbers. Performances take place at 8 and 10 p.m.

SUNDAY, APRIL 29
Penn State baseball vs. Northwestern – The series wraps up at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
“Channel Surfing” – Central PA Dance Workshop presents its annual All-School Performance. Selections at the Sunday afternoon show include Selections include a variety of ages and dance styles representing diverse thematic choices from Sesame Street to Downton Abbey, Sherlock to QVC, Liv & Maddie to Westworld. There is sure to be much to entertain everyone. Children from the creative, preballet, ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, tap, and musical theatre dance classes will participate, along with the adult ballet, modern, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, tap, and musical theatre dance classes. The performance takes place at 7 p.m. at the State Theatre.
