Summer Lovin': Plenty to do in Happy Valley this summer

UNIVERSITY PARK – Summer is just around the corner. It’s time to start making plans for your next visit to Happy Valley – now!

There are a plethora of great events taking place over the next few months, so get out your calendar or smartphone and get ready to head to Happy Valley for a summer filled with fun and excitement.

Here’s the month-by-month breakdown:

We Are Weekend (Friday-Sunday, June 1-3)

It’s the first-ever We Are Weekend, and there is a buzz in the air. Registration has already begun. The three-day celebration is open and inclusive to all Penn Staters, giving everyone the opportunity to attend events with family, friends and classmates. There will be behind-the-scene tours of Beaver Stadium, the Pegula Ice Arena, the Arboretum at Penn State and the Pattee-Paterno Library.

The highlight of the weekend is a free concert on the featuring Uncle Kracker from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 2.

Bellefonte Cruise (Friday-Saturday, June 15 and 16)

Do you love classic cars? Then Bellefonte is the place for you to be on Father’s Day weekend. Come and check out some of the best cars in the state as they compete for the “Best in Show” title. If you’ve never been to the Cruise, it’s a fun-filled weekend with cars, live music and food. Cruise Tip: Get to Bellefonte on Friday night for the Sock Hop on the Diamond

Lift For Life (Saturday, June 30)

If you’ve never been to Lift for Life, put this on your list. It’s a chance to see your favorite Penn State football players up close and personal and it’s all for a great cause. Players spend the afternoon lifting weights, moving tires and competing under the hot sun. After the event, they sign autographs and pose for photos. It’s a great way to spend a day in Happy Valley!

Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts (Thursday-Sunday, July 12-15)

The annual event gets bigger and better every year. This year is no exception. Across the University Park campus and throughout downtown State College, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts delights visitors with great art, music and food. It’s one of the nation’s longest-running arts festivals and brings thousands of people into Centre County. For more information, visit:

People’s Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts and Crafts (Thursday-Sunday, July 12-15)

Entering its 26th year, the People’s Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts and Crafts is the alternative to the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. Much like the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, People's Choice features fine works of art, live music and a myriad of food choices.
