Time to Lay It Down: The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War — A Listening & Conversation with Jerry Zolten The Vietnam War unfolded to a powerful soundtrack of rock ’n’ roll, soul, and folk-country—but there’s far more to that music than most people realize. Drawing on rare and compelling audio clips, Jerry Zolten tells the stories behind the songs, the musicians who created them, and the ways music shaped both the home front and the lived experience of soldiers who relied on it for comfort, connection, and survival amid the chaos of war. Zolten, in collaboration with producer Frank Christopher, co-wrote and narrated the nationally syndicated, award-winning radio documentary Time to Lay It Down The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War, which explored how music exposed deep divisions within American society while serving as a lifeline for troops on the ground. You’ll hear songs and firsthand voices from artists such as Graham Nash, Country Joe McDonald, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, William Bell, and Tom Paxton—alongside soldiers who smuggled rock ’n’ roll into the field and wrote their own songs to reckon with the trauma of war. Event will be held in our uptairs listening room (no handicapped access) . Dinner and Bar service available all evening. Click get tickets below to reserve your table.
