    Two State College Events Honor Black History Month 2026

    This Black History Month, the Borough of State College, along with their community partners and leaders, invites you to two meaningful events that honor legacy, elevate voices, and celebrate a century of Black history, culture, and brilliance in the community. These gatherings have been created in partnership with Carmin Wong (State College Borough Poet Laureate), Gary Abdullah (Vice Chair of the Racial Equity Advisory Commission), and Leslie Laing (Juneteenth Planning Chair).

    Making Community: Living Black History in State College

    On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, make your way to the Fraser Street Commons for Making Community: Living Black History in State College. Step into a space of stories, wisdom, and legacy and hear from the Black elders of State College sharing their journeys of growing up, working, and building life in the community. Through their lived experiences, we honor those who shaped the town, opened doors, and made space for future generations. Come listen, reflect, and connect across generations as we remember the past, appreciate the present, and carry forward the lessons learned. Light refreshments will be provided.

    100 Years of Celebrating Black History: Beads & Brilliance Gala

    On Friday, February 27, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, you are invited to 3 Dots Downtown for 100 Years of Celebrating Black History: Beads & Brilliance Gala. Add sparkle to your night and join in for an evening of joy, reflection, and celebration. This festive gala will feature live entertainment, a fabulous buffet, dancing, and a moment to honor 100 years of Black History Month commemoration.

    During the night, you will reflect on a century of culture, leadership, and achievement. The Juneteenth Planning Committee will also spotlight the 1865 Freedom Legacy Scholarship, uplifting the next generation of brilliance alongside local community leaders. Beads represent heritage.
