About the Centre County Airport Authority

The Centre County Airport Authority (CCAA) plays a vital role in shaping regional air travel, balancing infrastructure growth with community needs and passenger experience.

Overview

  • Established: Reestablished in 1978 as the successor to the State College Borough’s Airport Authority.
  • Primary Role: Oversees the University Park Airport terminal operations, including commercial airline services, parking, and terminal facilities.
  • Scope: While it monitors services provided by external vendors, the Authority is solely responsible for the terminal's management and development.

Governance

  • Composed of up to 9 members, appointed by various municipalities including Centre County, State College Borough, Bellefonte Borough, Patton Township, and Benner Township.
  • Members serve 5-year terms, contributing expertise in transportation, finance, and public service.

Leadership & Legacy

  • James “Jim” Meyer, longtime Executive Director (1997–2025), led major upgrades including terminal remodeling, new parking facilities, and improved baggage handling.
  • Ralph Stewart, former Bellefonte Borough manager, was appointed interim director in 2025 following Meyer’s retirement.
