Event Details:
Spring Creek Chapter Trout Unlimited (SCCTU) invites community members of all ages to the 10th Annual Family Fishing Picnic on Sunday, June 1, from 1:00–5:00 PM at Tussey Mountain Pond. This free, family-friendly event offers a fun-filled afternoon of fishing, outdoor activities, and environmental education. ClearWater Conservancy is proud to partner and support this event.
“This event is about more than fishing—it's about connecting families with nature, building community, and creating lasting memories,” said Judi Sittler, SCCTU Youth Outreach Chair and one of the original organizers.
Event Highlights Include:
The event continues to grow in popularity drawing 300–400 guests and 60–70 volunteers annually. Fishing gear is provided, no fishing licenses are required, and no registration is necessary.
SCCTU appreciates the funding grants from both ClearWater Conservancy, the Foundation for Western Pennsylvania Watersheds, and Harris Township, and the many generous donations of time and goods from Tussey Mountain, local businesses and volunteers, which allow SCCTU to continue to offer the afternoon of family-oriented activities free of charge to participants. Harris Township Supervisors, Denny Hameister & Frank Harden are looking forward to grilling hotdogs for the event again. Representative Paul Takac has supported this community event and will share a few words of gratitude with the Volunteers just before the event.
Launched on June 12, 2016 as the “Get Outdoors Family Fishing Picnic” to celebrate and coincide with National Get Outdoors Day. This event originally had approximately 300 people in attendance at the Tussey Mountain pond. Since then, it has grown in scope and added a Centred Outdoors hike as part of the program.
Centred Outdoors is leading guided outings of Galbraith Gap at 1pm and 3PM. Look for the Centred Outdoors flag near the Family Fishing Picnic access drive off Bear Meadows Road. The hike will be a short walk towards the forest from the Tussey Mountain Pond.
