Scraps & Skeins (Strawberry Fields, Inc.)

A unique creative reuse shop, Scraps & Skeins is located at 2766 West College Ave, Suite #4, State College, PA. We are a treasure trove of knitting and sewing supplies, all generously donated by our vibrant community. Visit us and explore this trove of treasures in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as every third Saturday of the month during the same hours. Every skein of yarn, every needle, and each scrap of fabric has a story, connecting us through a shared passion for crafting.  

A branch of Strawberry Fields, Scraps & Skeins was created in the summer of 2014 by a small group of women who wanted to develop employment opportunities for adults in recovery of mental illness. With the blessing of the Strawberry Fields’ Board of Directors, our “founding mothers” began the story and store that is Scraps & Skeins. Clinging to the vision, these inaugural volunteers recruited more volunteers and solicited donations from the openhearted needlewomen of Centre County. After testing the idea at a few craft fairs, we officially opened our doors in January 2015.  

Since then, Scraps & Skeins has grown from a single showroom and storeroom into the six-room shop and workspace we now occupy behind Strawberry Fields’ administrative office in Cato Park.  

Our mission is multifaceted:  

• to provide job development opportunities for people facing mental health challenges,  
• to offer the community affordable creative materials,  
• to offer an outlet for knitters and quilters to pass on overflow materials,  
• to save reusable textiles from the landfill,  
• and to promote the concept that reuse is beautiful 

Our shop is powered by community donations. By donating your unused or gently used knitting and sewing materials, you contributed to a shared pool of creativity and play a crucial role in reducing textile waste. By giving a second life to your yarn, fabric and notions, you help minimize the environmental impact of discarded materials. Your generous donations also enable us to keep our prices affordable, making crafting accessible to all members of the community.
