About the Central Pennsylvania 4th Fest

The area's all day patriotic celebration ending in a beautifully choreographed fireworks show. Best in Pennsylvania, America's best all volunteer fourth of July. "You won't believe your eyes and ears"

Origins & Evolution

  • The celebration dates back to 1927, when the Alpha Fire Company hosted a carnival and parade in State College.
  • In 1978, the Sunrise Kiwanis Club took over, introducing fireworks near Beaver Stadium.
  • By 1991, the event grew under the leadership of WZWW Radio and United Federal Bank, with Dan Barker and family pioneering computer-choreographed fireworks synced to music.
  • In 2001, the nonprofit Central Pennsylvania July 4th, Inc. was formed to sustain the growing festival with help from hundreds of volunteers.

 Festivities

  • The 4th Fest is a full-day celebration packed with patriotic fun:
  • Firecracker 4K race through Penn State’s campus
  • Parade down College Avenue
  • Car show
  • Live entertainment
  • Massive fireworks show, often rated among the best in the country.
