Prepare for Summer Fun

As April sheds its last shower, May rolls around and half of State College is gone. Penn State students drive home with their Nittany Lion bumper stickers and sweatshirts until they can wear them again come fall.

State College, however, is still up and running with its many events that make “summer lovin’, havin’ a blast” take on a whole new meaning. Lions don’t stop roaring when the sun rises over Happy Valley and summer hits full swing!

Here are the major events you don’t want to miss this summer!

AUW State College 58th Annual Used Book Sale

It can be intense sometimes, the works of art we find, in the nooks, books and crannies of this life—so read and explore as many books and nooks as you can! The 58th Annual Used Book Sale will take place from 9 a.m.–9 p.m., May 11–14, at the Snider Agricultural Arena. Browse through collections of novels, texts, novellas, cookbooks—the works. You never know what gems you might find! There’s nothing like starting off the summer with good reads that can keep you company on the porch, a hammock or a vacation on a perfect summer day.

We Are Weekend

One special weekend every year is dedicated to students and alumni of Penn State University. This year, the weekend falls on May 31–June 2. Events include a special recognition of the class of 1969 and Penn State Pioneers. Tours of the Beaver Stadium and new School of the Music recital hall will be provided along with interactive stations and activities featuring new research and projects of the university. The famous Nittany Lion Shrine will have professional photo opportunities and an on-campus family concert will cap off a weekend of “We Are Penn State Proud!”

7th Annual Happy Valley Culinary Week

What gets better than a whole week dedicated to delicious delights and fabulous foods? Even more exciting is that you’ll be celebrating local dishes and chefs that fill the stomachs and hearts of Happy Valley. Culinary Week falls on June 10 and lasts through June 16 this year, offering seven glory-filled days of discounted, multi-course, fixed-price menus. Don’t miss out on these steals and deals!
