NCAA Recognizes Five Nittany Lions Teams for Academic Progress

Penn State Nittany Lions teams continue to shine both in athletics and in the classroom. The NCAA has honored five different Penn State teams for their high academic progress achievements.

The 2018 recipients of this NCAA Public Recognition Award are women’s fencing, men’s golf, women’s tennis, women’s volleyball and wrestling.

These teams have earned multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent nationally for their respective sport through the 2016-17 academic year.

Wrestling recap: Nickal's pin gives Lions another title

UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State wrestling team did it again.

The Nittany Lions put the wraps on their seventh NCAA title in eight seasons. The Lions were nearly perfect in the finals, going 4-1. Penn State capped an unbelievable 14-0 season, including a 9-0 record in the Big Ten.

Penn State trailed Ohio State by six points, but rallied in the finals to take down the Buckeyes, 141.5 to 134.5.

The deciding pin came from Junior Bo Nickal.

PSU hockey, hoops and wrestling prep for postseason

UNIVERSITY PARK – It’s a busy sports weekend – in Happy Valley and beyond.

The Penn State men’s and women’s basketball teams are in action at the Big Ten Tournaments, while the wrestling squad is also taking part in Big Tens. All of those events are outside of Happy Valley. However, there is a big event taking part at University Park on Friday, Saturday and if necessary, Sunday.

Penn State wrestling squad ready for home finale

UNIVERSITY PARK – If you haven’t checked out the Penn State wrestling squad yet, time is running out.

The Nittany Lions host their final dual meet of the season at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Rec Hall when the University of Buffalo visits.

The match is sold out. However, you can still get certified re-sale tickets at www.ticketmaster.com.

Penn State’s biggest question mark of the day will be answered at 197 pounds, where the Lion faithful could see either Shakur Rasheed or Anthony Cassar.

A pair of Penn State teams honored at White House

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A pair of Penn State athletic teams were honored at the White House on Friday afternoon.

Penn State’s national championship-winning women’s rugby team attended as did some seniors from Penn State’s NCAA-title winning wrestling squad. The teams were just a part of “Collegiate National Champions Day.” The teams were honored and hosted by Present Donald Trump.

The women’s rugby team won their 12th overall title. They have won six in a row.
