UNIVERSITY PARK – Between Pegula Ice Arena, the Bryce Jordan Center, and Rec Hall, the University Park campus will be rocking this winter. Check out our list of games, players, and moments that we think will make this winter sports season one to remember.

Cael Sanderson’s modern-day dynasty will host a headline battle against Iowa at the Bryce Jordan Center. The Nittany Lions have won six of the last seven NCAA titles, and standing-room only tickets are still available for some matches.

Jan. 26                  Minnesota

Feb. 3                    Ohio State

Feb. 10                 Iowa (at Bryce Jordan Center)

Men’s Ice Hockey

Guy Gadowsky and the Nittany Lions are back after a historic season a year ago, when they won the Big Ten championship and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time, and also came within one win of the Frozen Four. The majority of Big Ten games will come after the New Year, with fans having the opportunity to see nearly all Big Ten opponents, including Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish joined the Big Ten as an affiliate member earlier this year.

Notable home games:

Jan. 5/6                Wisconsin

Jan. 12/13            Ohio State

Feb. 2/3               Notre Dame

Women’s Ice Hockey

First-year coach Jeff Kampersal arrives from Princeton, where he won 327 games over 21 seasons. The Nittany Lions compete in College Hockey America (CHA) and won nine games a season ago. This year, the Lions have already garnered some individual accolades, with sophomore goalie Daniela Paniccia having been named the CHA Goalie of the Week on Oct. 9. In a series against Union, Paniccia made four saves in the third period of a 3-1 win, and then she added another 20 saves in a 1-1 tie. In making 24 saves, Paniccia had a goals-against-average of 0.71 and boasted a save percentage of .960. She led CHA in both categories for that weekend.

The Nittany Lions are off to a blazing start (9-3), and there are plenty of games left on the home schedule.

Senior guard Shep Garner leads the Lions. If you haven’t seen them yet, the team has a nice sophomore trio from Philadelphia: guards Tony Carr and Nazeer Bostick, and forward Lamar Stevens. Junior guard Josh Reaves rounds out the backcourt, with redshirt sophomore Mike Watkins adding size and muscle to the frontcourt.

Like the men, the Penn State Lady Lions are off to a solid start at 9-3 and undefeated (6-0) at home.

Under head coach Coquese Washington, the Lady Lions won 21 games last season and appeared in the NIT; and for fans looking to attend home games this season, you probably won’t be disappointed. The Lady Lions finished 16-2 at the Bryce Jordan Center during the 2016-17 season. The Lady Lions kick off the home slate of the Big Ten schedule in late December.
