What You Need to Know: Blue-White Game
Our game day preview returns for the 2017 season, starting with the Blue-White game.
Set for a mid-afternoon start on Saturday, April 22, the team’s annual spring scrimmage offers the first glimpse at what to expect following the sensational 2016 season that featured a Big Ten championship and Rose Bowl appearance.
Here’s our preview, Blue-White edition.
Need-To-Know Details: 3 p.m. kickoff, Saturday, April 22.
Venue: Beaver Stadium.
TV: BTN is scheduled to air the game live, though it’s recommended that you check BTN.com for updated listings.
Pregame Events: An autograph session with the players is scheduled for 12:15-1:05 p.m., at Gates A, B, C, E, and F. The team has announced it will share more details on social media this week, and you can read the team’s release for complete details on other events during Blue-White Weekend, including additional game day info. Parking lots open at 8 a.m. Saturday, with Fan Fest scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
Weather Forecast (via AccuWeather): A high of 63 degrees and cloudy.
Parking Info: As previously announced by Penn State Athletics, 2016 season ticket and parking season parking holders can park for free by showing their 2017 Blue-White parking permit that was included in last year’s sheets. FYI that if you’ve misplaced that sheet, Athletics won’t replace it.
Game day parking will cost $20 for cars and RVs and $60 for buses. The overnight RV lot will also cost $60 for anyone arriving Friday. Chances are good the crowd will surpass 60,000 (if not significantly more), so it’s strongly recommended to purchase a parking pass, if you need to and haven’t done so already. RV lots will open at 8 a.m. Friday, and tailgating lots will open the same time Saturday.
Additional parking information from Athletics: Cars will be loaded into parking lots in arrival sequence, starting with lots closest to the stadium. Fans with white parking permits and those needing ADA parking will be in the closest lots until those lots are filled. Patrons who pre-purchased permits will be in the next closest lots; fans purchasing permits on game day will be parked in lots further from the stadium.
You can purchase Blue-White Game car and RV parking permits in person at the Bryce Jordan Center Ticket Office (weekdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.). In person sales will end at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 21.
Trivia Tidbit: An estimated 205,000 fans have watched the last three Blue-White games: 65,000 last year, 68,000 the year before that, and 72,000 in 2014.
Prediction: A great game (and weekend) for the entire Penn State community. The Nittany Lions’ season opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 2, against Akron, so we recommend soaking up as much fun, food and football as possible during Blue-White Weekend to hold you over until then.
