PSU hockey, hoops and wrestling prep for postseason

UNIVERSITY PARK – It’s a busy sports weekend – in Happy Valley and beyond.

The Penn State men’s and women’s basketball teams are in action at the Big Ten Tournaments, while the wrestling squad is also taking part in Big Tens. All of those events are outside of Happy Valley. However, there is a big event taking part at University Park on Friday, Saturday and if necessary, Sunday.

Here's the breakdown:

MEN’S HOCKEY

The Penn State men’s hockey team is in action as the Big Ten Tournament begins. The Nittany Lions are a No. 4 seed while the Golden Gophers are No. 5. The Lions will host the best-of-three series this weekend at the Pegula Ice Arena. Face off on both Friday (March 2) and Saturday (March 3) is set for 7 p.m. at The Peg.

If necessary, a third game will be played Sunday (March 4) at – you guessed it – 7 p.m.

Tickets are still available for all three games! Visit www.ticketmaster.com to purchase tickets.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Penn State men’s basketball team is the No. 7 seed at the Big Ten Tournament, which begins on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in New York City. At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Lions will take on No. 10 seeded Northwestern, a team they lost to earlier in the season. However, if they get past Northwestern, they would take on No. 2 seed Ohio State, a team they defeated twice already this season. Win those two games and it’s no telling how far they can go. Early round games will be televised by the Big Ten Network. The semifinals and finals will be televised on CBS.

WRESTLING

The Penn State wrestling squad heads to East Lansing, Mich., with its eyes on another Big Ten Championship. Session one begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 3. Session two will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, March 4, sessions three and four will take place. Wrestling on Sunday begins at noon. The Sunday sessions will begin at noon and televised on the Big Ten Network. Friday’s sessions are on Big Ten Plus. Watch as the Nittany Lions get ready to chase another National Championship.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Penn State women’s basketball team (15-14) heads to Indianapolis at the No. 11 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Its first game is at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28 against No. 14 Illinois (9-21) at Conseco Fieldhouse. Should the Lady Lions win that game, they would move on to face No. 6-seeded Michigan (21-8). Quarterfinals, semifinals and finals are slated for Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Indy.
