PSU commencement celebrations
Celebrations are beginning here in Happy Valley, with the fall 2018 undergraduate commencement occurring in just a few weeks! On Friday, Dec.14 at 5 p.m., the Schreyers Honor College medals ceremony will occur in the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. On Saturday, Dec.15, the baccalaureate and associate degree ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The 9 a.m. ceremony will be held for the college of agricultural sciences, Smeal college of business, college of earth and mineral sciences, college of engineering and college of information sciences and technology.
The 12:30 p.m. ceremony includes the college of arts and architecture, Donald P. Bellisario college of communications, college of education, college of health and human development, college of liberal arts, college of nursing and Eberly college of science.
The masters and doctoral degree ceremony for the graduate school will be held at 4:30 p.m. Doors open 90 minutes before each ceremony.
Tickets are not required and there is no guest limit for each student. Open seating will be available for guests! Parking is available in the Stadium West and Jordan East lots and guests should enter through gates A, B, C and D at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Thankfully any hand-held photo and video devices are allowed within the BJC. Although cameras are permitted, photographers from GradImages will be present at each ceremony taking pictures of individual students as they cross the stage. Students will be contacted by GradImages shortly after graduation to buy and receive the pictures.
If you’re unable to make it to State College and see your graduate receive his or her diploma, no worries! Commencement ceremonies are livestreamed and available on Penn State’s YouTube channel and the commencement live stream archive following commencement.
After years of hard work at Penn State, our graduates deserve a celebration! A delicious lunch or dinner is a must after the long ceremonies. Some popular restaurants within State College include American Ale House, The Field Burger and Tap and Gigi’s Southern Table. Each of these restaurants have delicious food and excellent service, as well as a warm atmosphere.
Pictures are a must on graduation day! If you’re brave enough to bear the cold, swing by Old Main and the Pennsylvania State University sign outside of Beaver Stadium for some pictures. Even though it will be December, The Nittany Lion Shrine is a must, especially since it’s the number one spot for graduation photos!
There are a number of hotels to stay at while celebrating your graduate. There are two options on campus, The Nittany Lion Inn and The Penn Stater Hotel. Another close option is the Hyatt Place, located downtown above Target. Other hotels include the Best Western, Country Inn & Suites, Ramada Conference Center and Toftrees Golf Resort. These hotels are a bit further, but they will most likely have more availability because of the high demand of graduation weekend.
Graduation is a joyous time that brings students and their families together. Make the most of your graduation day and celebrate your accomplishments with those who supported you through it all. Congratulations Class of 2018!
