Penn State welcomes Arizona State to the Rec Hall for the first time
Eight-time NCAA champion Penn State will host Arizona State for the first time since 2001. This Pac-12 event will take place at 6:00 p.m. Friday Dec. 14. and can be watched live on ESPN2.
Penn State has now won 48 straight dual meets since the 2014-15 season and has had sold out crowds for 43 straight home duels. Don't worry if you don't have a ticket for this one yet. You can always look online or outside the Rec Hall for tickets at reasonable rates.
Penn State shutout no. 10 Lehigh in last week’s dual in front of a sold out Rec Hall crowd. Notable ranked wins came from Bo Nickal, Anthony Cassar and Mark Hall. Sophomore Devin Schnupp had his first Rec Hall win and second straight dual win at 125. True freshman Roman Bravo-Young (133), no. 4 ranked sophomore Nick Lee (141) and no. 4 ranked senior Shakur Rasheed (184) also had impressive bouts.
The Sun Devils and Coach Zeke Jones finished among the top 10 at last year's NCAAs.
Who to Watch: NCAA champion Zahid Valencia (174) returns with the Sun Devils along with seven other Pac-12 champions. That list includes Pennsylvania natives Josh Maruca (149) and Josh Shields (157). Valencia is rostered at 174 but is rumored to be moving to 184. This would mean a third collegiate bout between him and Penn State's Mark Hall. Hall came out on top in the 2017 semifinals and Valencia took over in 2018. Heavyweight Tanner Hall is another Sun Devil headliner.
Roman Bravo-Young of Tucson is a freshman 133-pounder at Penn State coming off his 182-0 career and four state titles while at Sunnyside High School.
Interesting note: Just last month three-time Super 32 champ, Adam Busiello, switched his college commitment from Penn State to Arizona State. Now a high school senior, Busiello had given a verbal commitment to Penn State after his sophomore year.
Penn State is currently without a single Top-100 commit from this year’s Senior Big Board.
