Penn State closes season with Fiesta Bowl win

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Penn State football team finished the season at 11-2 with a 35-28 win over Washington in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday afternoon in Glendale, Ariz.

With the win, the Nittany Lions improved to 7-0 in Fiesta Bowls.

In what was probably his final game as a Nittany Lion, running back Saquon Barkley rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns, including a 92-yard TD in the second quarter. He also caught seven balls for 38 yards.

Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley had a big day, passing for 342 yards, including a pair of touchdowns. Wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton had five catches for 110 yards and a pair of scores.

The Nittany Lions raced out to a 28-7 lead and held a 28-14 edge at the intermission.

McSorley converted 12 of 12 third down opportunities. All told, he threw for 193 yards during those chances.

A new-look Penn State team will return to action in April for the annual Blue-White Game.
