Penn State advances to NIT semifinals

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The Penn State men’s basketball team just keeps on climbin’.

The Nittany Lions took care of business on Tuesday night in Milwaukee, Wisc., knocking off Marquette, 85-80, in the quarterfinals of the NIT.

Penn State was sparked by Lamar Stevens, who tied his career-best with 30 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

The No. 4 seeded Nittany Lions will head once again to New York City – this time for the NIT semifinals. They will face Mississippi State on Tuesday, March 27.

In addition to Stevens, two other Nittany Lions reached double figures: Tony Carr (25) and Shep Garner (19).

Penn State led the game for 37:17 and had 40 points in the paint vs. Marquette’s 24.

The Nittany Lions shot 53.4 percent for the game, including an amazing 69.2 in the first quarter alone.

This is Penn State’s 11th appearance in the NIT. The Nittany Lions won the tournament in 2009 and lost in the 1998 finals.
