Nittany Notes: PSU hoops squad ready for Big Ten Tourney

UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State men’s basketball team concluded its season last night, with a 76-64 loss to Nebraska on the road.

Penn State was without its leading rebounder Mike Watkins, who missed the game due to a knee injury.

Tony Carr led the Nittany Lions in scoring with 27 points in the loss.

After dropping three consecutive games, Penn State sits at 19-12 on the season with an even 9-9 record in the Big Ten.

Big Ten Tournament

Penn State drew the No. 7 seed in the 2018 Big Ten tournament in New York City.

Northwestern, the No. 10 seed will be Penn State’s opponent on Thursday, March 1.

Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.

The Wildcats are currently on a six-game losing streak entering the tournament and carry a 6-12 record in the conference.

The two teams matched up this season in January, and the Nittany Lions fell on the road by a score of 70-61.

The winner of the game will take on No. 2 seed Ohio State Friday.

Penn State swept Ohio State this season.

Return of Mike Watkins

Penn State badly missed its leading shot blocker and rebounder this past Sunday in its loss to Nebraska.

Watkins is averaging 12 points to go along with nine rebounds and two blocked shots a game this season.

When Penn State faced Northwestern in January, Watkins battled with Wildcats’ center Derek Pardon, who has posted similar stats to Watkins this season. Pardon limited Watkins to just eight points in the Penn State loss.
