Nittany Lions ranked No. 6 in preseason AP Poll

The rankings are out – and the Penn State football team is starting 2017 just about where it ended 2016.

The Nittany Lions are ranked at No. 6 in the Associated Press preseason poll, which was released this afternoon. PSU finished last season at No. 7 following a heartbreaking loss to USC in the Rose Bowl.

The Nittany Lions trail Alabama (No. 1), Ohio State (No. 2), Florida State (No. 3), USC (No. 4) and defending national champion Clemson (No. 5).

Penn State has been ranked 24 times in the preseason top 10. This is the first time the Nittany Lions are ranked in the top 10 to start the season since 2010.

Besides Ohio State and Penn State, Wisconsin (No. 9) and Michigan (No. 11) round out the Big Ten schools that are ranked.

Penn State is also No. 6 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
