Looking back: Fiesta Bowl history, Part VI

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State’s most recent trip to the Fiesta Bowl came in 1997.

In what would be Joe Paterno’s final Fiesta Bowl, the Nittany Lions posted an impressive 38-15 victory over Texas.

The Nittany Lions entered the game with a 10-2 record and struggled early against the Longhorns. Penn State trailed at the half, 12-7, but stormed back in the second half.

In the third quarter, Penn State outscored Texas 21-3. Touchdowns came from Aaron Harris, Curtis Enis and Anthony Cleary. The Nittany Lions iced the game with a TD late in the game from Enis.

There were a host of future NFL players in game, including Enis, Ricky Williams and Phil Dawns.
Paterno finished his career with a 6-0 record in Fiesta Bowls.
