After 19 years of coaching the Penn State hockey team, Joe Battista will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Nov. 3.   Battista has led the Icers to six national titles and helped lay the foundation for the Nittany Lion varsity programs.

Penn State hockey is back in action

With some disappointing results in football these last few weeks ardent PSU fans might feel empty handed. But do no fret! Hockey is also in season. So get fired up and attend some of the upcoming home games!

The men’s hockey team has had an impressive season so far with six wins over Brock, Clarkson, Niagara, Princeton and Arizona State University. The one loss was to Arizona State in a close and exciting rematch that saw the Lions lose 3-4 in overtime. Currently the team is ranked eighth in the nation.     

Looking back: PSU hockey had another successful season

UNIVERSITY PARK – Another collegiate hockey season is in the books.

And while Penn State fell short of its goal of making the Frozen Four, it was still a very good year for the Nittany Lions.

Let’s take a look back at how the season ended – and what lies ahead.

Penn State fought their final battle of the season in Allentown. The Nittany Lions lost their Frozen Four hopes, falling 5-1 against the 2016-17 National Champion Denver Pioneers. 

Penn State men's hockey team earns NCAA berth

UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State men’s hockey team is headed back to the NCAA Tournament.

Over the weekend, the No. 13 Nittany Lions learned their fate – and they will not have to travel very far.

Penn State, a No. 3 seed, will face No. 2 seed Denver in the Midwest Regional in Allentown at the PPL Center. The game will face off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 24. The winner will move on to Sunday’s game, which is slated for 6:30 p.m.

Penn State hockey team awaits its fate

UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State suffered a heartbreaking loss to Notre Dame this past Saturday, falling 3-2 to the No. 1 seed in the last 30.9 seconds of the game. Jack Jenkins scored the final point off a rebound, putting the Fighting Irish ahead to face the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in South Bend, Ind. for the Championship title. The two will battle in single elimination at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 on the Big Ten Network.

After completing yet another sweep against Minnesota last weekend, Penn State advances to the Big Ten Championship semifinals. The Nittany Lions will play the Fighting Irish this afternoon at the Compton Family Ice Arena in Indiana.

PSU hockey fans can secure home tourney tickets

UNIVERSITY PARK – This year, the fight to the Big Ten Tournament will be very different compared to the past five years.  

After recently being held in spots such as Detroit, Michigan, and St. Paul, Minnesota, the Big Ten Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament is coming to campus sites starting with the Quarterfinals round, March 2-4, 2018. The Quarterfinals will see the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 seeds host the No. 7, No. 6 and No. 5 seeds in a best-of-three series.
