Weekend events: Home and Garden Show takes over BJC

STATE COLLEGE – It may be spring break, but there’s still plenty to do in Happy Valley this weekend.

The big highlight of the weekend if the Central PA Home and Garden Show, which takes place all weekend long at the Bryce Jordan Center. If you’re a sports fan, you’re out of luck as every single Penn State team is on the road this weekend.

FRIDAY, MARCH 9

Central PA Home and Garden Show – The 34th annual Central PA Home and Garden Show kicks off from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Bryce Jordan Center. Acoustic Brew – Michael Jerling will perform at Acoustic Brew, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Well-Being. Jerling was among the winners of the prestigious “New Folk” competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. He has been recognized for both his songwriting skills as well as his engaging performances. Tickets are $18. Visit www.acousticbrew.org for details.

SATURDAY, MARCH 10

The Central PA Home and Garden Show – The show continues for Day 2 at the Bryce Jordan Center. Saturday’s show is the longest of the three days and runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Met Opera HD – “Semiramide” will be shown at the State Theatre beginning at 12:45 p.m. State College native Sarah Shafer stars in the role of Azema. Tickets are $22 and are available at the State Theatre box office or at www.thestatetheatre.org.

Penn State men’s hockey at Notre Dame – The Penn State men’s hockey team continues its quest for a Big Ten Championship. The game faces off at 5:30 p.m. in South Bend, Ind. However, you can catch the game on the Big Ten Network at your favorite Happy Valley bar or restaurant.

SUNDAY, MARCH 11

The Central PA Home and Garden Show – The final day of the show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. If you’re looking for someone to remodel your bathroom or need a new landscaper, the Central PA Home and Garden Show is the place to be.
