Tussey Mountain re-opens for the winter season
BOALSBURG – Take two.
After a malfunction on the ski lift delayed opening weekend at Tussey Mountain, it will re-open for business this weekend. The popular Centre County destination opens on Saturday, Dec. 23 at 9 a.m.
The resort will be open all Christmas weekend, including Christmas Day from noon to 4 p.m.
There’s no better place to ski, snowboard and tube in central Pennsylvania.
Tussey Mountain is an all-seasons resort, but their biggest attraction is skiing on 50 acres, with three ski and snowboard lifts and a snow tube lift that take you to the tops of some of the most impressive slopes in the Northeast. Tussey has seven different trails for skiers of all experience levels. From the Little Bear beginner’s slope to the most challenging slopes on the mountain — the Upper Tuscarora and Upper Shamokin — the skiing and snowboarding conditions are always impeccable.
One of the most unique and fun parts of Tussey Mountain is the terrain park on the lower Utah and Tuscarora slopes. The terrain park features boxes, rails, pipes and a number of assorted jumps that give you an opportunity to show your skills and impress your friends.
Everything is more fun with a group of friends, and Tussey Mountain makes sure to accommodate groups and parties of all ages and sizes. Tussey offers a 20 percent discount on skiing, snowboarding or tubing for groups of 10 or more people. And while winter birthdays are usually reserved for inside venues, Tussey Mountain can host your birthday party on the tubing hill — for only $27 per person, everyone gets three hours of sliding, plus a reserved table in the Lodge with pizza and refreshments. The tubing hill can also be rented for private functions during non-business hours, for any function or company retreat.
Tussey Mountain also offers youth ski and snowboard programs for kids ages six through 12. The programs, beginning in January on Saturdays or Sundays, give young skiers and boarders a chance to improve their skills and make friends on the slopes. The cost for the youth ski program is $155 for season pass holders and $245 without a season pass; rental equipment for the program costs $70.
And whether it’s before you hit the slopes or after a long day of skiing, Edges Pub, located in the Lodge at Tussey Mountain, is a must visit. Edges is one of State College’s best kept secrets, and is only open during the winter season! The food, atmosphere and live entertainment at Edges throughout the winter are second-to-none. As Tussey Mountain says, Edges is the most exclusive and elusive night spot in Happy Valley!
Weather reports are calling for a chilly winter for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, which will translate to an above-normal snow season — and that is music to the ears of central Pennsylvania skiers and snowboarders. Make sure to visit Tussey Mountain this winter to hit the slopes and enjoy the beautiful Central Pennsylvania outdoors!
Tussey Mountain slopes and lifts are open to skiers and snowboarders carrying either a season pass or daily ticket. In peak season, chair lifts operate from noon until 10 p.m. on weekdays; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and holidays; and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Tussey Mountain is typically open for skiing, snowboarding and tubing from December through March.
