Where will Penn State's bowl destination be?

UNIVERSITY PARK – The regular season is in the books.

Penn State won its final three games (Rutgers, Nebraska, Maryland) in impressive fashion to finish the season at 10-2. Now, let the bowl projections begin.

The experts at CBS, ESPN and Sports Illustrated are projecting a trip to Arlington, Texas for the Nittany Lions. Arlington is the home of the Cotton Bowl. The game will be played on Dec. 29 but is still considered one of the New Year’s Six bowls. The New Year’s Six consists of the Cotton, Fiesta, Orange and Peach – along with the College Football Playoff games.

According to the bowl projections from the aforementioned media outlets, they project the Lions to face either TCU or Auburn. Although the regular season has concluded, a great deal will be decided by this weekend’s conference championship games.

It’s worth nothing that some other sites have the Lions going elsewhere. College football analyst David M. Hale of ESPN sees a Penn State-Miami matchup in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30. Penn State has not played in the Orange Bowl since 2006, a 26-23 triple-overtime thriller which featured coaching legends Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden.

Bleacher Report likes a Penn State-Alabama matchup in the Peach Bowl on Jan. 1.

Meanwhile, AthlonSports.com and CollegeFootballNews.com see a Penn State-USC rematch in the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 30.

The bowl matchups will be announced on Sunday, Dec. 3.

Stay tuned.
