Homecoming Weekend: Lots to see and do
UNIVERSITY PARK – There are weekends and busy weekends.
And then there is Homecoming weekend.
This weekend, in case you didn’t already know, is Homecoming weekend. There are a plethora of events and activities slated for this weekend. If you aren’t out doing something, you’ve got no one to blame but yourself!
So get out, enjoy the fall foliage and take advantage of everything Happy Valley has to offer. Let’s take a closer look at what’s on the horizon this weekend:
THURSDAY, NOV. 9
Penn State wrestling vs. Army West Point – Cael Sanderson’s Nittany Lion wrestling squad is on a mission to bring home another National Championship to Happy Valley. The Lions take on Army West Point at 7 p.m. on Thursday. For tickets to the match, visit www.gopsusports.com.
Spanish Harlem Orchestra – The Spanish Harlem Orchestra is a Latin big band led by pianist Oscar Hernandez. It truly sets the standard for authentic New York City-style salsa dura (hard salsa). There are 13 world-class musicians and vocalists in the orchestra. It will perform a musically precise, fresh and exciting take on salsa. The show begins at 7:30 at Eisenhower Auditorium. Thompson Square – The duo of Keifer and Shawna Thompson are a force to be reckoned with in the modern day Country music landscape. International Country music stars, Thompson Square has topped the radio charts across the United States, Canada and Australia with several No. 1 hits. FRIDAY, NOV. 10
Phyrst Documentary – The premiere of the Phyrst documentary will be held at 3:45 p.m. at the State Theatre. The hour-long documentary chronicles the 50-year odyssey of one of State College’s most beloved locations. For tickets and more information, visit www.thestatetheatre.org.
Penn State Homecoming Parade – The Penn State Homecoming Parade begins at 6 p.m. on campus and travels through downtown State College. Penn State hoops – Don’t want to stand outside in the cold and watch the parade? Well, you have another option. Check out the Penn State men’s and women’s basketball teams in a rare doubleheader. An Evening with Keller Williams – The musician hits The State Theatre stage for a rare 9 p.m. show. If you’ve never seen Williams live, you’re in for a treat. Penn State Homecoming Game vs. Rutgers – After two tough road losses, the Penn State football team returns home to face Rutgers at noon. It’s time for the Nittany Lions to bounce back as they gun for a 10-2 season, a New Year’s Day bowl game and a Heisman Trophy for RB Saquon Barkley.
Veteran’s Day – Because freedom isn’t free, we honor our veterans on Saturday. If you’re a vet, be sure to check the internet for deals at area restaurants and the like. Locally, the Pennsylvania Military Museum offers free admission to veterans and their families. The museum is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Veteran’s Day.
