Pitt-PSU: The Good, Bad and Ugly

Well, that was pretty much what everyone expected. When the dust settled on Saturday's 33-14 victory over Pitt, there were many highlights as the Nittany Lions avenged last season’s 42-39 loss at Heinz Field.

Let’s take a quick look back at the Good, Bad and Ugly from today’s game at Beaver Stadium.

The Good — Saquon Barkley. Once again, Penn State’s star running back stole the show. Although he only had 88 rushing yards, he tied Pitt in knots on more than one occasion. His longest run of the day went for 22 yards and he had one TD.

The Bad — Pitt. OK, the Panthers aren’t terrible, but they are a shell of the team that knocked off Penn State and Clemson in 2016. You can really see the gaping holes left by the departures of running back James Conner and quarterback Nate Peternan — who are now playing on Sundays in the NFL.

The Ugly — The game. Let’s face it, this one wasn’t pretty. Sure, a win is a win. And getting one over your rival is always nice. But this game lacked the excitement of last year’s contest at Heinz Field. Still, it’s the best non-conference game on the schedule in recent memory. Keep it going, Sandy Barbour.
