5 Best Fishing Spots in Happy Valley

1. Bald Eagle State Park
Sayers Reservoir offers 23 miles of shoreline that is great for warm water fishing. Common species include: crappie, yellow perch, tiger muskellunge, channel catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass. If you’re looking for a relaxing day of fishing and fun, look no further than Bald Eagle State Park.

2. Spring Creek
You’re going to have to grab your waders and fly rod for this one. Located just 15 minutes from State College is a fly fisher’s paradise with a reputation for its nice-sized trout. But don’t expect to be taking home a trout for dinner because it's catch and release only.

3. Penns Creek
This hot spot is an angler’s dream. Located near Penns Cave, Penns Creek is known for its brown trout population. Use the right bait, lure, or fly and you might catch yourself an 18-incher. That’ll have your friends saying, “That big, eh?”

4. Whipple Dam State Park
Located near Petersburg, Whipple Dam State Park is a perfect fishing getaway. Whipple Lake and Laurel Run are both stocked with trout during the winter and spring seasons, keeping an ample supply all year around.

5. Raystown Lake
While this spot is a bit of a hike from Happy Valley (a little over an hour), it’s well worth the drive. Raystown Lake is home a variety of different species of fish including: catfish, carp, bass, trout, perch, blue gill, and many more. If you’re looking to reel in a monster bass, it’s best to use live bait in the spring!
