Delicious Local Treats at Boalsburg Farmers’ Market

Got the munchies? Want the freshest produce? Ripest fruits? Cheese, milk or meats from grass-fed animals? Our local jewel, the Boalsburg Farmers’ Market, is open year-round on Tuesdays from 2–6 p.m. in historic Boalsburg. The Winter Market is held in the St. John’s United Church of Christ on Church Street and features plenty of dairy, baked goods, meats and salmon, winter veggies, apples and cider, eggs, pasta and more.

The outdoor Summer Market starts in early May in the PA Military Museum parking lot on South Atherton Street. Summer offerings provide a smorgasbord of locally produced or crafted foods, drinks and other products such as handmade soaps. About 30 vendors will make sure you have the freshest veggies, a plethora of juicy in-season fruits, sumptuous dairy products, humanely-raised meats, freshly made pasta and baked goods, and plenty of ready-to-eat foods.

The market also boasts some of the earliest red ripe tomatoes in the area, two wine vendors, locally crafted beers, hard cider and even native plants for sale to start your spring off right. And everything is grown or made by the very folks you will meet as vendors. Street musicians in the summer add to the festive air, so come on out and make a day of it—remember, every Tuesday from 2–6 p.m.!

For sightseeing, Boalsburg is worth a visit in its own right. Tucked just 2 miles east of State College, the self-proclaimed “Birthplace of Memorial Day” hosts many historical events throughout the year. Add to that cozy coffee shops and the incomparable Duffy’s Tavern, Boalsburg is a great “local getaway.” Visit boalsburgvillage.com for more.
