Get in One Last 5K Before Winter

Calling all runners and walkers!

It’s time to get that last lap in before winter hits. Happy Valley has plenty of runs and walks to choose from coming up soon, and each of them will not only be a ton of fun, but also for a fantastic cause. So if you’ll be heading to town for a weekend soon, be sure to pack your sneakers and put those legs in gear for your favorite charity.





Steps to Safety 5K Run/Walk

When: Saturday, October 15, 9:30 a.m.
Where: Penn State Blue/White Golf Course, Corner of N. Atherton St. & White Course Dr.
Benefits: Centre County Women’s Resource Center (CCWRC)
Entry fee: $20/$15 Ages 11 & under; FREE Kids under 6; Race day – $25/$20 Ages 11 & under

YMCA Donut Dash 5K

When: Saturday, October 15, 9:30 a.m.
Where: Talleyrand Park, Bellefonte
Benefits: Belleftone YMCA
Entry fee: $25 until 10/10; $30 after 10/10 & on race day; $15 Ages 16 & under
Fun bonus: The dash consists of five 1K loops. After each loop, you can choose to eat one donut. For each donut you eat, you get 2:00 taken off your finish time!

Centre Region Down Syndrome Buddy Walk

When: Saturday, October 15, 10 a.m.
Where: Medlar Field
Benefits: Centre Region Down Syndrome Society
Entry fee: $10
Fun bonus: The walk is followed by lunch and more fun until 2 p.m., including a photo booth, music, games, silent auction, raffle and more! Plus, October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

16th Annual THON 5k

When: Sunday, October 16, 11:30 a.m.
Where: Bryce Jordan Center
Benefits: THON
Entry fee: $18 for Competitive Run; $15 for Fun Run
Fun Bonus: Entertainment will be provided by local entertainment groups, and a complimentary lunch and water is served to everyone. Also, what’s more fun than being a part of THON?

4th Annual Lung Cancer 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Walk

When: Sunday, October 16, 2:00 p.m.
Where: Tudek Memorial Park, State College
Benefits: Free to Breathe partnership for lung cancer survival
Entry fee: Online – $25/$15 Ages 12 & under; Mail-in – $28/$18 Ages 12 & under; Event day - $30/$20 Ages 12 & under
Fun bonus: Raise $100 and earn a Fundraising Hero Cape to wear on event day (your registration fee counts!)

Fun bonus: The running course has optional stops for wine tasting, a complimentary glass of wine at the finish, and after party snacks from Jersey Mike’s. Also, gift cards will be given as prizes for the best costumes, so come dressed up!
