Weekend events: Wrestling takes over BJC; Popper's Penguins

STATE COLLEGE – Snow. Ice. Cold. Probably a good weekend to order a pizza, stay home and watch a movie, right?

There’s too much going on in Happy Valley this weekend to simply sit at home and not go anywhere. If you don’t have plans, there’s plenty happening. Let’s take a closer look at the weekend so you can get your plans finalized!

“Rock the 80s” – Re-live one of the best decades of rock and roll as local bands take the stage at The State Theatre for what is always a fun evening filled with great music, great drinks and dancing. All proceeds from the show benefit the Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund. The event typically sells out. If you want tickets, visit www.thestatetheatre.org. Show starts at 7 p.m.

Metropolitan Opera HD Presents: “L’Elisir d’Amore” – “L’Elisir d’Amore” will be shown at noon at The State Theatre in downtown State College. Luke Ogden, faculty member at Houghton College in New York will speak at 11 a.m., followed by the opera at noon. For more information and tickets, visit www.thestatetheatre.org

Penn State men’s lacrosse vs. Hobart – The Penn State men’s lacrosse team will be in action against Hobart beginning at 1 p.m. at Holuba Hall. Even though it’s inside, bundle up … it can get chilly inside Holuba. Tickets are available at the door.

Penn State wrestling vs. Iowa – The undefeated and top-ranked Penn State wrestling squad will take on Iowa at 8 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. The match is sold out, of course, but you can get verified tickets from www.ticketmaster.com.

Lady Grey’s Casino Night – Looking for something irreverent and offbeat? Try “Lady Grey’s Casino Night,” which will take place in the Attic at the State Theatre at 8 and 10 p.m. Due to mature content, those attending must be 18 and older. For tickets, visit www.thestatetheatre.org.

“Mr. Popper’s Penguins” – The popular children’s book (and movie) hits the stage at Eisenhower Auditorium for a 4 p.m. performance. Truly an all-ages show, “Mr. Poppper’s Penguins” delights audiences nationwide. Great seats are still available. Visit www.cpa.psu.edu for more details.
