Weekend events: THON, wrestling ... and more!

STATE COLLEGE – It’s a big weekend in Happy Valley.
First and foremost, it’s THON weekend. Beginning on Friday, Feb. 16, the Bryce Jordan Center will be the center of the Penn State University universe. It will remain that way until the reveal late in the afternoon on Sunday, Feb. 18.

In addition to THON, there’s a lot going on. Let’s take a closer look at some of the big events:

Penn State men’s basketball vs. Ohio State – Before the dancers take over the Bryce Jordan Center, the Nittany Lions play their biggest game of the season when Ohio State comes to town. The Lions can continue building their resume for the NCAA Tournament come March. A second win over the Buckeyes would go a long way in making their case for an at-large bid. Tickets are still available. Visit www.ticketmaster.com and don’t forget to wear white.

THON – THON officially begins at 6 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. If you’ve never been to the BJC for the event, it’s truly a sight to see. Admission is free and on day one, the later the better to avoid big crowds.

Penn State men’s volleyball vs. Sacred Heart – The Penn State men’s volleyball team takes on Sacred Heart at 7 p.m. at Rec Hall.

“Love in Hate Nation” – The play is a love story between two girls set in an early 1960s juvie hall. It tells the tale of young people caught between eras of a changing America and their attempt to break out of the boxes society has created around them. The play will be staged at 7:30 p.m. at the Playhouse Theatre. For tickets, visit www.theatre.psu.edu/loveinhate

Penn State sports – Want to check out some sports on Saturday? Well, take your pick. There’s men’s lacrosse (2 p.m.), women’s hockey (3 p.m.), women’s gymnastics (4 p.m.) and men’s volleyball (4 p.m.).

THON – THON continues all day at the BJC. Don’t forget to get out and make a donation. Can’t make it out to the BJC? You can still donate at www.thon.org.

Penn State wrestling vs. Buffalo – The Penn State wrestling team puts the wraps on its home schedule when it takes on Buffalo at 2 p.m. at Rec Hall. The match is sold out, but you can get official re-sale tickets at www.ticketmaster.com.

THON – The annual event wraps up at 4 p.m. at the BJC. If you can get in for the final hour or two, be prepared for the emotions to overflow. That’s when families tell their stories, followed by the big reveal. Last year, $10 million was raised for Four Diamonds. Can they top it in 2018?
