Weekend events: Hoops, jazz and a bridal expo

STATE COLLEGE – Do you have those mid-winter blahs? Looking for something to do this weekend? Well, there’s plenty going on in Happy Valley over the next several days.

Let’s take a look at what’s happening in and around the area:


Penn State women’s basketball vs. Rutgers – The Penn State women’s basketball team faces Rutgers at 7 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. If you haven’t seen Coquese Washington’s squad in action yet this season, what are you waiting for? For tickets, visit www.ticketmaster.com.


Penn State wrestling vs. Purdue – The Penn State wrestling team faces Purdue at 7 p.m. at Rec Hall. Nittany Lion head coach Cael Sanderson has his squad primed for another National Championship, so get out and see the Lions while you still can. For tickets, visit www.ticketmaster.com.

Jazz in the Attic – Andy Tollins will perform at 8 p.m. in the Attic of the State Theatre. If you like jazz, there’s no better setting than the Attic. It’s an intimate setting and reasonably-price entertainment. For tickets, visit www.thestatetheatre.org.


Penn State men’s gymnastics vs. Army West Point – The Penn State men’s gymnastics’ squad will take on Army West Point at 4 p.m. at Rec Hall. The men’s gymnastics’ squad is one of Happy Valley’s best-kept secrets, so be sure to check them out. Tickets are available at the gate.

Shelter from the Storm – The 7th annual Strawberry Fields benefit concert will feature the music of Bob Dylan. All of your local favorites will perform. Here’s just a few expected to be in the lineup: Miss Melanie and the Valley Rats, Ted McCloskey and the Hi-Fis, The Tommy Roberts and Pure Cane Sugar. Central PA Bridal Expo – The annual event will be held at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. If you are engaged or planning a wedding, this is the place to be. It has everything you need to know — from flowers to photographers – the Central PA Bridal Expo has it. More than 80 vendors are expected to attend. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m.
