'Twas the week before Christmas (and plenty to do)

Christmas is a week away.

We know you’ve got a lot on your “to do” list, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take time to treat yourself as you cross things off your list.

Even with all of your shopping, wrapping and the like, take time to enjoy yourself this hectic holiday season.

If you’re looking for something to do this week, there’s plenty going on. In fact, we found something for every day of the week.

Here are some highlights of everything going on this week (today through Wednesday):

Monday, Dec. 18

“A Christmas Carol” – If you’re looking for something to do tonight, you can’t go wrong with a trip to The State Theatre. Former Penn State instructor Tony Lentz will read “A Christmas Carol” in The Attic of The State Theatre. Tickets for the event are just $3.50.

“Elf” – The Christmas classic will be shown on the big screen at The State Theatre beginning at 7:30 p.m. If you’ve never seen it on the big screen, now is your chance. Will Ferrell stars as Buddy the Elf in a film suitable for all ages.

Tuesday, Dec. 19

Penn State men’s basketball vs. Binghamton – The Penn State men’s basketball team has its sights set on the NCAA tournament this season, so each and every game (especially non-conference games) are significant. If you haven’t seen the 9-3 Nittany Lions yet this season, take some time out of your night, get up to the Bryce Jordan Center and check them out. Game tips at 7 p.m.

Visit www.ticketmaster.com for tickets.

Wednesday, Dec. 20

Ice skating – From noon to 1:30 p.m., Pegula Ice Arena will be open to the public. Public skating hours are rather limited, so get up to The Peg, rent some skates, get laced up and hit the ice. Cost ranges from $5 to $8 depending on your age group. Skate rentals are $3. For more information about public skating, check out www.gopsusports.com or call Pegula at (814) 865-4102.
