STATE COLLEGE – Ready. Set. Shop.
If you are headed out to the big box stores this holiday season, don’t forget to patronize local businesses as well. Throughout Happy Valley, there are a number of small businesses and other organizations that offer unique gifts for those on your holiday shopping list.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the places you should check out:
Center for the Performing Arts
Know someone who loves theatre? Well, tickets from Penn State’s Center for the Performing Arts might be just the gift for them. There are a plethora of shows taking place in 2018 including “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” (Feb. 11) and “Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” which hits the stage on Feb. 20.
For the adults on your shopping list, grab some tickets to The Birdland All-Stars featuring Tommy Igoe on Jan. 26 or Yamato: The Drummers of Japan Chousensha – The Challengers on Jan. 30.
All of the aforementioned shows take place at Eisenhower Auditorium.
For more information about tickets, visit www.cpa.psu.edu or stop by the Eisenhower Auditorium box office.
There’s nothing as local as Dante’s. Whether it’s a gift card to one of Dante’s many restaurants (Hi Way Pizza, The Deli) or bar (Inferno, Liberty Craft house), you can’t go wrong. But Dante’s is so much more than just food and libations.
If you are truly looking for a unique gift, how about some beer glasses or a bottle opener from Liberty Craft House. For those Penn Staters on your list, try a Monkey Boy mug or T-shirt. And you can never go wrong with a Mario’s Italian Food Basket featuring a variety of pasta, sauces and salad dressings.
For more information, visit www.dantesinc.com.
If you’ve never been to Bellefonte, why not? There are a myriad of small, unique shops that help you keep your dollars local. Whether you are looking for jewelry (Confer’s Jewelers), furniture (The Great Mish Mosh), a holiday centerpiece (Woodrings Floral) or food (Dam Donuts), Bellefonte has something for you. Bring some quarters, park in one of the metered spots for the afternoon and walk around downtown to see everything it has to offer.
While you’re in Bellefonte, be sure to grab some lunch (or dinner) at Pizza Mia.
