WingFest Is Back and Bringing the Heat

Here’s how it works: every Thursday beginning July 21, up to six local restaurants set up shop on Tussey Mountain. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and admission is $5 (FREE for kids under 12!). That $5 also buys you one vote – the power is in your hands, so use a Wet-Nap and choose wisely. By the end of the night, votes are tallied and the winner of the round is announced. The seventh week of WingFest, September 1, is the highly anticipated final round! Winners from each of the previous weeks return to the mountain and battle it out.

The line up for Round 1 has been revealed, and the vendors will be Main Street Café, Pizza Hut Wing Street, Primanti Brothers, Wegmans, Wilderness Lodge, and Ye Olde Milroy Hotel. Maybe some of these names don’t ring a bell – or you’re familiar with the place, but haven’t given their wings a go. All the more reason to make an appearance at the Wingfest kickoff! One reviewer reports that Wilderness Lodge in Milroy has the “BEST WINGS IN AMERICA!” and Primanti Brothers’ menu claims their wings are “Almost Famous.” This competition is sure to be fierce.

For the past two years, Duffy’s Tavern has taken home the gold. Will the crown go to a classic hometown wing joint this year, or will an underdog come out on top? You’ll be the judge of that!

And if you’re not a wing eater (gasp!), don’t be discouraged. Plenty of other vendors will be on site serving up a variety of cuisine. Look for Doan’s Bones, Rosie’s Pierogies, and Rita’s Italian Ice (among others) to curb the heat.

WingFest has established itself as a hotspot for live entertainment, bringing favorite local bands and national acts to the stage. On July 21, JP rocks will open the show, followed by Eagles tribute band Desert Highway. As a bonus, reentry is permitted for attendees, so the family can take a break from wings and things to hit the Go-Karts or play a round of Mini-Golf in the Fun Centre.

Summer’s about to get spicy. We’ll see you soon!
