The Class II rapids found along stretches of Red Moshannon Creek make it a great stream to hone whitewater paddling skills. The 30 mile stream flows through forests and lands with an extensive history of mining. The entire length is polluted by Abandoned Mine Drainage (AMD), which has stained the streambed orange and given the waterway its "Red" nickname. Due to this drainage, the stream cannot sustain fish populations.
