Homecoming Week is the special week we welcome all of our former Nittany Lions back to State College! The week leading up to homecoming in Happy Valley is filled with a mixture of fun events including live music, a carnival, an ice cream social, parade and it all caps off with the October 5th Penn State Football game against the Purdue.
The events start with the SPA/Homecoming Concert the week before the Homecoming game, which serves as the official kickoff to Homecoming Week. On Monday, downtown State College takes center stage for the Allen Street Jam starting at 1 PM. The event will be highlighted by a dance competition from the various on-campus groups. There will also be food vendors and games, which makes it friendly for all ages.
Past to Present Day celebrates Penn State's past while looking forward. The event will be held on the HUB Lawn starting at 1 PM. Later on that evening the FTG Talent Show will be at Schwab Auditorium, which will be a showcase of various performers from across campus. Those voted into the top 3 finishers will have the opportunity to perform at THON the following February.
On Wednesday a long-time favorite returns in the Best of Penn State Carnival on the HUB Lawn. The event will run from 2-7 PM and will include face painting, games, inflatables and more. There will be food available to snack on as you enjoy performers. The goal is to bring together students, faculty, staff, children and the community.
Things start really ramping up on Friday when all of the sweet tooths come out Hintz Alumni Center for the annual Student-Alumni Ice Cream Social from 1-3 PM. It won't be just any ice cream, but the legendary Berkey Creamery ice cream, as if there is any other choice. Event goers can enjoy the Alumni Blue Band playing favorites.
After the sweet treat come downtown to watch the homecoming parade floats hit the streets of campus and State College. Make sure you get there early and claim a good spot to watch the parade and support all the creative student groups that put in the hard work to make them possible.
Saturday means Penn State Football and the timeless tradition of tailgating. Be sure to get your parking in advance of the game by contacting Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics. Advanced car parking passes cost $25, while day of game car parking costs $60. Enter the gates for the game to join one of the best college football experiences according to NFL, Business Insider and a host of others.
