This Year in Happy Valley: THON, Blue White Weekend, 4th Fest and more!
2019 is already in full swing — who would have ever thought? Time really flies…especially when there are fun events to add to your calendar! So, be sure to add these following adventures to your list!
2018 marked the year where THON raised $10.1 million for the fight against childhood cancer. Let’s beat that number at this year’s THON, taking place from Feb. 15 to Feb. 17. Join the dancers that stay up for hours on end, or the students and families who support from the stands with posters and cheers.
The blue and white fever does not have to end with the football season in fall. Here in Happy Valley we roar for the Nittany Lion with lion ears and sweatshirts in the winter and the Blue White weekend in spring. Come on out April 13 this year, with kickoff tentatively scheduled to take place early to mid-afternoon. Spend the weekend tail gating and celebrating the final practice of the lions’ spring camp. 2018 marked the fourth largest crowd in Blue White weekend history, totaling an estimated 71,000 fans.
There is nothing sweeter than reuniting with fellow alumni and spreading the joy of being a Penn Stater. Once a lion, always a lion…and that truly ain’t no lie! This year, the alumni weekend falls on the weekend of May 31 to June 2. Be sure to check out local inns and hotels as well as cafes and restaurants that fill your heart as well as stomach!
Come on out for this volunteer-run festival where blue and white fever meets a splash of red on this Independence Day! Fireworks, music, food, games, a 4k…what more can you ask for? Oh, free admission? You got it!
A lover of art? Of innovation, creativity and originality? Come on out July 10 to July 14 this summer to fill your sunny days with music, art and exhibitions that can take your breath away. Don’t forget to stop by the Sidewalk Sale and pick out a gift for a loved one or yourself. Over 300 artists come from all over the world to display their work — be sure to fill yourself in on the artistic magic and maybe even take a selfie with the backdrops provided by the festival!
Before you know it, the fall leaves will start heading towards the ground…and masses of Penn State fans will fill up Beaver Stadium for the first game of the season. The first game for the Nittany Lions will take place on Aug. 31 at Beaver Stadium, against the Idaho Vandals. Be ready for those chicken fingers, tail gates and, of course, the Nittany Lion roar. Grab your season tickets now!
For some schools, a white out game means straying from their school colors. For Penn State fans? It means whipping out those t-shirts and sweatshirts or quarter-zips that are already a school color! Don’t get cold feet and be the one (but not the only one) in white at the first white out of the season! The major rival games this upcoming season are against the Pitt Panthers on Sep. 14 and Scarlet Knights on Nov. 30. Be on the look-out for which commands a white out!
