Pittsburgh Brewing Company Taps Blue White Media To Share Brewer’s Resurgence Story

Iconic Brewer Targeting Hearts and Minds of the Vital State College Regional Market

STATE COLLEGE, PA, December 20, 2018 – As part of its plan to bring its rich history and brand reintroductions to one of the most well-defined, influencer-rich markets in the country, Pittsburgh Brewing Company (PBC) has engaged the award-winning digital agency Blue White Media (BWM) of State College, PA.

“Iron City Beer is an iconic brand – especially in the western PA market,” explained Eric Porterfield, Creative Director and Account Manager at Blue White Media. “Pittsburgh Brewing Company saw how we’ve helped other large, regional companies engage with the PSU-centric market specifically, asked us for a plan, liked the plan and invited us to join their team for 2019. We see it as a great honor. We love their brands.”

The agency agreement underscores Blue White Media’s central role in reconnecting a larger than life Pennsylvania heritage-brand with past and current customers and people who might only know Iron City Beer as, “the beer my dad and grandpa drank.”  

For Blue White Media, the challenge is obvious, but so is the opportunity.

“State College is a market like no other,” said Brandon Noble, Blue White Media CEO.  “Pittsburgh Brewing Company understands the importance of an influencer market like State College and how it can catapult their brand by reconnecting with their base. With Iron City Beer it’s clearly a case of ‘everything old is new again’ because Pennsylvanians and Penn Staters are loyal to, and appreciative of, heritage brands. We also think people love the toughness expressed by Iron City standing their ground in the face of competition from mega-brewers.  These corporate heavy weights might ‘own’ a brand but often without any real engagement with the brand’s heritage. The folks at Pittsburgh Brewing genuinely care about the brand because they grew up with it.”

For the next several months, a team of Blue White Media’s State College-based staffers will be spending plenty of time in Pittsburgh at the venerable old Pittsburgh Brewing Company facilities on Liberty Avenue.

You can feel the history in each room being brought back to life and that puts a little more pressure on our crew to get it right; to really impress on people the commitment this company is making to preserving an important part of the region’s dna.”

Pittsburgh Brewing Company is in the initial stages of restoring the Liberty Avenue property with keen attention to the process of historical preservation.

Throughout 2019, Blue White Media will feature PBC’s beers and stories via its multiple distribution platforms, including BWM’s www.happyvalley.com, “The Obligatory PSU Pregame Show” broadcasts, and its other media assets.

In October, Pittsburgh Brewing Company was named the principal sponsor of the recently released documentary film, The Phyrst 50: A Bar in a College Town.  In September, PBC sponsored Blue White Media/PSU Alumni Triangle Chapter’s special football pre-game broadcast from Raleigh, NC that raised more than $2,500 for Wade County, NC’s local food bank.
