Like a Kid on Christmas Eve...Bring on the Presents

You've endured the months of wondering who our quarterback will be.  You've sat through countless inquiries into JoePa's health.  You've re-watched the Blue-White Game on your DVR more times than you care to remember.  Put down those remotes Penn State fans...It's time for some football!

The Nittany Lions take on the Youngstown State Penguins at noon on Saturday, September 4.  The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network for those unable to make it to Beaver Stadium.  The Nittany Lions and Penguins are meeting for just the second time, with Penn State posting a 37-3 win in 2006.  Penn State owns an impressive 102-19-2 (83.7) record in their season openers, winning their last eight. The Nittany Lions are 37-7 (84.1) in season openers under Joe Paterno.

James' Prediction - 34-3  Nittany Lions

Look at This Lineup!

It's Labor Day Weekend which means the fun doesn’t have to stop on Sunday!  Take advantage of the three-day weekend and kick the 2010 season off right.  Get the party started on Thursday night when former American Idol winner Kris Allen visits the State Theatre.  Fresh off the "American Idols Live" Tour, Allen takes the stage at 8pm on Thursday night.

On Friday, you've got a tough choice to make.  You can A) Swing by the Bryce Jordan Center for the Grammy-nominated country music duo, Sugarland. B) Head to Rec Hall to catch the women's volleyball team go for win number 106.  Or C) We hope you'll join us for Football Eve Presented by HappyValley.com!  Former Nittany Lion All-America quarterback Chuck Fusina will address the crowd!  Meet the team!  Hear what JoePa has to say about the upcoming season!  Ride the rides!  Eat the food!  Watch the fireworks!  Play the games!  We could go on forever.  Bottom line - Get to Football Eve!

105 and counting!  Last weekend the Penn State women's volleyball team swept the Carolina Classic at the University of North Carolina.  Those three victories brought the nearly three-year-long winning streak to 105 games.  The Nittany Lions open their home slate with the Hampton Inn Classic at Rec Hall this weekend.  Penn State takes on Seton Hall at 7pm on Friday, and Colgate (10am) and VCU (7pm) on Saturday.  Click here for the complete schedule of Penn State's fall sports - including women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, and field hockey.

The State College Spikes have three home games left in 2010!  Join us tonight (Wednesday) for Half-Price Wednesday.  On Thursday, the first 1,000 fans will receive a Spikes football.  And the Spikes will close the 2010 season on Sunday with Fan Appreciation Night.  Help the Spikes end the year with another record-setting crowd.

Still Available...

We know that this year's home schedule isn't ideal.  Youngstown State and Kent State won't exactly get your blood boiling.  So that's all the more reason to extend your stay in Happy Valley!  Explore Penn's Cave, visit the PA Military Museum in Boalsburg, and check out the Penn State All-Sports Museum inside Beaver Stadium.  There is PLENTY to do to keep you occupied over an extended weekend.

...And speaking of PLENTY, there are plenty of hotel rooms still available for the 2010 season.  Popular hotels like the Days Inn (814-238-8454), Hilton Garden Inn (866-204-1221), and Super Eight (814-237-8005) have rooms available for upcoming opponents like Kent State, Northwestern, and Michigan State.  Check out our Hotel Guide for a complete list of Happy Valley's hotels.

Let's fast-forward a little bit to November.  By now, the Nittany Lions will be 12-0 (hopefully), and you've just enjoyed a tremendous trip to Washington DC to watch Penn State beat Indiana at FedEx Field.  Thanksgiving is right around the corner, but you need to be in Happy Valley to see JoePa complete the perfect season.  Check out PAReservations.com for your one-click stop to Central PA lodging.  Simply enter the dates you'd like to travel, and see what lodges, cabins, and rooms are available!
