Accuweather's Dr. Joel Myers Named Homecoming's Grand Marshal

Penn State Homecoming has announced Dr. Joel N. Myers as the Homecoming 2016 Grand Marshal. Dr. Myers is the Founder, President, and Chairman of the Board of AccuWeather, the nation's largest commercial weather service. AccuWeather, located in State College, Pa., is a sponsor for Penn State Homecoming events, such as the Color Run and Parade.

Myers donated the weather vane to Penn State, which is featured in the Homecoming 2016 logo.

Myers earned his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science and doctorate in meteorology, all from Penn State. During his undergraduate years, Myers received many awards, like the American Meteorological Society's Father Macelwayne Award, an award to honor meteorology students.

When Myers was an undergraduate student, he was the vice president of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, an editor of The Collegian and an employee for WDFM.

Myers was an instructor, assistant professor and lecturer of weather forecasting from 1964 to 1981. He is currently on the Board of Trustees at Penn State. He has also received the Distinguished Alumni Award.

He has written 75 articles and papers and has given 100 speeches and lectures.

“I'm extremely excited to work with and get to know such a notable alumnus who has given so much back to not only Penn State but Homecoming as well,” said Alumni Relations Director, Shannon McConnell.

He will be featured in the Homecoming Parade and will be recognized during the Homecoming football game.

Homecoming week will begin on Sunday October 2 and continue through Saturday October 8, when the Nittany Lions take on Maryland.
