PSU point guard uses Nike Skills Academy to prep for upcoming season

UNIVERSITY PARK – Big Ten All-Freshman team select Tony Carr will look to build on a record-breaking first year at Penn State.

Carr, the team’s starting point guard, was the Nittany Lions’ leader in points (13.2) and assists (4.2) over the course of his 2016-17 freshman campaign.

His accolades during his freshman season earned him a trip to the 2017 Nike Skills Academy in Los Angeles this past summer.

The Nike Skills Academy consists of the top 20 collegiate basketball players from America.

That’s the magic number for the Penn State men’s basketball team this season. More specifically, that’s the number of points the team wants to score every game. That was one of the many messages that head coach Patrick Chambers stressed during media day before the season.

The Alma Mater, Basketball Style

The Nittany Lion hoops squad sang the alma mater and thanked the student section for its support after downing Lock Haven 91-65 inits season-opening exhibition game.

We interrupt this #FootballWeekend to bring you a recap of Penn State men's basketball team season opener. They debuted the season with a convincing 91-65 exhibition victory over Lock Haven on Nov. 4, 2016, at the Bryce Jordan Center. Five Nittany Lions scored in double figures, with Tony Carr, Josh Reaves and Mike Watkins each scoring 15, Lamar Stevens adding 14, and Shep Garner contributing 13. Penn State also finished with 12 steals while shooting 53 percent from the field in the second half.

Lions Prepare for Big Ten Tournament

The Penn State men capped off their season on the hardwood a game above .500 with a thrilling, double overtime 86-79 win Sunday against the Fighting Illini of Illinois Sunday at the Bryce Jordan Center.
